This is a new blog connected to a forthcoming book where our understanding of rurality is examined from a range of perspectives and academic disciplines. Please feel free to join the debate and share your thoughts on what “rural” means to you.

I joined the University of Lincoln in 2008 as a Research Fellow in the Enterprise Research and Development Unit. Subsequently I became a Lecturer in Economics and Entrepreneurship and I continue to teach at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. I completed my PhD in the Centre for Rural Economy at Newcastle University and have published extensively on small businesses in rural areas, with a particular focus on the economic impact of migration into rural areas. I continue to carry out research into regional and rural economies and rural entrepreneurship, applying a combination of quantitative and qualitative techniques to analyse the issues facing businesses and communities outside of the core metropolitan areas.
